Mark H. Thiemens教授現任加州大學聖疊哥分校化學/生物化學系傑出教授，物理科學學院院長，2006年被聘為美國國家科學院院士和美國文學與科學院院士。2009 年被聘為太阳集团app首页客座教授，2010年被聘為中國教育部長江學者講座教授, 是穩定同位素非質量分餾效應（Mass-independent Isotope Fractionation）的發現者和相關理論的提出者。該理論被廣泛應用于環境變化、生物起源、太陽系起源、行星大氣等不同領域的研究，新的應用包括醫學、基因工程和納米材料技術。Thiemens教授已在Science和Nature上發表了23篇論文，并獲得多項榮譽，包括美國能源部授予的科學最高榮譽獎Ernest O. Lawrence Medal和地球化學協會授予的最高榮譽獎Goldschmidt Medal。2006年一顆小行星被命名為 (7004) Markthiemens。

Professor H.M. Thiemens is currently a distinguished professor in the Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry and Dean of Faculty of Physical Science in University of California, San Diego. He is an elected member of National Academy of Sciences and American Academy Arts and Sciences of U.S.A. and world leader in stable isotope Mass Independent Fractionation theory and its application in atmospheric chemistry especially in physical chemistry of isotope effects and solar system formation. He has received numerical awards and honors for his distinguished research and academic achievements. He has published altogether over 20 Nature and Science papers.
