INTRODUCTION:
Dr. XieShanju is Air Quality Scientist at Auckland Council. He completed a degree in meteorology in his nativeChina and a PhD in Liverpool before moving to New Zealand. He joined the council in 2006 following a three-year stint at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA), a Crown Research Institute. In his day to day work he provides air qualityinformation and evidence for key projects, collaborates with other organizations and responds to public enquiries. His research helps acquire new evidence and assess progress and whether or not the environmental goals have been achieved.
Dr Perry Davy is a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS Science), a Crown Research Institute owned by the New Zealand Government. He has a background in air quality management, air quality monitoring and atmospheric chemistry research. He has completed a Master of Science degree in Organic Chemistry at Auckland University and a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry at Victoria University in Wellington New Zealand. He has previously worked at New Zealand environmental protection agencies before his current position at a government research institute. His research work involves the compositional analysis of atmospheric aerosol and source attribution while at the same time developing the methodologies and technologies for advancement of the science.
