BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH of Dr. Laura Pan
Laura Pan studied physics as part of the “Class 77” at Beijing Normal University (1978-1981). After receiving a graduate study scholarship from the CUSPEA program (organized by T. D. Lee and C.N. Yang) in 1980, she studied at the Physics Department of the Johns Hopkins University and received a Ph.D. in Quantum Optics in 1987. In the following years, she did her postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST). In 1991, she joined the Meteor3/TOMS team at the NASA Goddard and started her atmospheric research career. Since 1992, she has been a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Boulder, Colorado. At NCAR, she has worked on satellite remote sensing of carbon monoxide, satellite and aircraft data analyses on chemical transport of water vapor and ozone, especially in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS). Since 2003, she has been leading the NCAR UTLS project and worked on a number of field projects using the NSF/NCAR research aircraft Gulfstream V (GV). For more information on her current interest and activities, see website (http://www.acd.ucar.edu/~liwen/).
